Respondeo

Hi.

Is the verb "respondeo" irregular? Because its perfect tense inflects as "respondi", while most verbs of the second conjunction end in "-evi". Why isn't it "respondevi"? I tried to find possible exceptions to the rule, but I couldn't find anything. Am I missing something?
