universal mother

What's the best, most correct Latin way of saying "universal mother", for example, when Zeus tells Deucalion to throw over his shoulders the bones of his mother, and he understands that Zeus refers to the Earth, "universal mother", and the "bones" are actually stones. The context is not the important thing, rather, I want to know how to say "universal" in this sense, in classical Latin. I feel like adjective universus is not quite the same thing.
