I choose it > (S)Eligo?

Hello everybody!

I'm trying to translate to Latin the sentence I choose it, or I choose, underlining that the person himself makes his choices in the life. It would be an impact phrase, translated in Portuguese as Eu escolho.

I know I could translate it as Seligo or Eligo. But I don't know which is the best verb, or if there's another better verb.

Moreover, one told me that it would be better to say (S)Eligam, in the future, because of the impact...
